#1 – Maintain regular oral hygiene habits: To keep your teeth and gums in their best shape, don’t skip daily cleanings. Brushing with a soft-bristled toothbrush and using fluoride toothpaste twice a day will go a long way to protecting your pearly whites. Use a dental flossing method which is easy for you to handle, and make sure to clean all crevices between the teeth once a day. If needed, you can follow up with an oral rinse to reduce bacteria levels in the mouth.

#2 – Protect your gum health: Maintaining healthy gums when you have diabetes is especially important. If your gums bleed when you eat, or when you brush your teeth, please see your dentist to ensure that there is no gum disease. If you have white patches in the mouth or any other abnormal changes, please let your dentist know.

#3 – Maintain all routine dental cleanings and check ups: Seeing Dr. Doyle and Dr. Monaco every six months for routine cleanings and checkups is vital. When you come in, please make sure our staff knows you are diabetic. We will give you any tips you need to make sure you are giving your teeth and gums the oral care they need.
